LUIS MARIA DE PUIG SAYS BEGINNING OF DIALOGUE OVER NAGORNO KARABAKH CONFLICT REGULATION IS WINDOW OF HOPE FOR THE WHOLE REGION

STRASBOURG, NOVEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS: Following the launch of the
dialogue on peaceful regulation of Nagorno Karabakh conflict head of
the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Luis Maria de
Puig called on the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents to continue
in that way.
"I want to congratulate Presidents Sargsyan and Aliyev and President
Medvedev who supported the meeting for finding solution to the Nagorno
Karabakh conflict regulation. The beginning of this dialogue, which
will be followed by diplomatic efforts and a number of events for
promoting the consolidation of trust, is a window of hope for the
whole region," PACE chairman said.
He noted that the Assembly worked during the last 15 years for
giving relevant political solution to the conflict in accordance with
international standards and principles and the commitments the two
states assumed while joining Council of Europe. Such solution is now
closer," he said.
"The Parliamentary Assembly is ready to help Armenian and Azerbaijani
parliaments in all their efforts so that the newly started process
be useful," PACE chairman added.
