SARGSYAN, SCHEFFER APPRECIATE THE CURRENT LEVEL OF ARMENIA-NATO RELATIONS

Within the framework of his visit to Brussels the President of
Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan had a meeting with NATO Secretary General
Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.

During the meeting Serzh Sargsyan and Jaap de Hoop Scheffer
discussed the Armenia-NATO cooperation, as well as issues related
to the negotiation process on the Karabakh conflict settlement, the
Armenian-Turkish political dialogue, regional security and cooperation
in the field of peacekeeping.

The parties highly appreciated the current level of Armenia-NATO
cooperation and approved the process of implementation of the
Individual Partnership Action Plan. The recent military exercises
held in Armenia were also positively assessed. President Sargsyan
attached importance to the cooperation with NATO as a component of
Armenia’s security.

The parties stressed the importance of establishment of guaranteed
peace and stability in the region, considering the solution of issues
via political negotiations as the only acceptable way.

NATO Secretary General appreciated the Armenian-Turkish dialogue and
the breakthrough in the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue,
and expressed his support to the processes.
