YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 6, NOYAN TAPAN. The election of Barack Obama as the
U.S. president will contribute to the regulation of Armenian-Turkish
relations.

Radio Liberty reported that the Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan
stated that in Brussels on November 5 – during a joint press conference
following a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Council of the
European Union Javier Solana.

"I am convinced that the election of Barack Obama will help establish
and restore Armenian-Turkish relations. At the pre-election stage
and prior to it, Mr Obama expressed himself quite clearly regarding
our relations, and I think he will assist with regulation of our
relations, although these relations depend first of all on the Turkish
and Armenian sides," S. Sargsyan said.

As for the Turkish president’s invitation to visit Turkey and watch
a return match of the national football teams of the two countries,
S. Sargsyan said that this visit depends on the further process
of negotiations.

J. Solana in his turn welcomed the Moscow meeting of the Armenian and
Azerbaijani presidents and their agreement to continue negotiations
within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. In his words, the EU
is not concerned about the strategic allied relations of Armenia
with Russia.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
