RUSSIAN RAILWAYS ESTIMATE RAILWAY FROM ARMENIA TO IRAN US$1 BILLION

ArmInfo-RBC. The railway from Armenia to Iran will cost at least
US $1 billion, Vladimir Yakunin, Head of Russian Railways OJSC,
the concessionaire of the Armenian railway network told media. He
said the company is ready to come out as the contract holder of the
project if Russia, Iran and Armenia agree on the terms of financing.
V. Yakunin said the project of the railway has been recently discussed
by Russian and Armenian presidents, Reuters reports. To recall,
Armenia is bordering with Georgia and Russia is in conflict with
the later. Armenia is bordering also with Azerbaijan and Turkey that
closed the boundary after breach of diplomatic relations because of the
conflict over Nagorny Karabakh and the dispute on the fact of Armenian
Genocide in Ottoman Turkey at the beginning of the 20h century. The
railway to Iran would significantly improve Armenia’s state.
