The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Hungary Edward Nalbandian
and Kinga Göncz held talks on the development of bilateral
relations. Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told a press
conference that the parties expressed hope and confidence that the
bilateral relations will gain new speed. According to Mr. Nalbandian,
a great potential exists for deepening and enlarging the bilateral
cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other spheres. During
the meeting the parties agreed to prepare a corresponding interstate
document.

"Very few agreements on cooperation have been signed between the two
countries up to now, which could serve as a basis for more active
development of relations in different spheres," the Armenian Foreign
Minister noted.

During the meeting discussions were launched on the development of
regional relations. Edward Nalbandian presented to his Hungarian
counterpart the latest developments in the process of settlement
of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. The Ministers signed a document,
which envisages holding bilateral Armenian-Hungarian consultations
within the framework of the European Neighborhood Program.

According to Mrs. Göncz, the Armenian community of Hungary is rather
active and brings its participation and contribution to the development
of the country. "We should try to create closer relations. Hungary
joined the European Union four years ago, and before that all our
efforts were targeted at that purpose. We are ready to share our
experience with Armenia," she said. According to the Foreign Minister,
the European Union realizes that the Caucasus region is important
for it.

According to Mrs. Göncz, a great potential exists for the development
of Armenian-Hungarian relations in the economic, educational and
cultural spheres. "We hope to sign other documents in the near future
for the development and expansion of our cooperation," she said,
attaching importance to reciprocal visits.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
