YEREVAN, November 24. /ARKA/. A monument to the Armenian dram opened
Saturday opposite the head office of the Central Bank of Armenia
(CBA) in Yerevan.

premier says it stands for Armenia’s independence.

In his turn, CBA Chairman Arthur Javadyan said the Armenian dram
was put into circulation in a hard period for the newly independent
Armenia, adding the dram has proved to be a strong currency.

The bronze monument on a stone pedestal symbolizes the strength of
the Armenian dram.

According sculptor Eduard Shakhikyan, it took five months to build
the monument.

The Armenian dram was officially recognized the national currency of

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
