HUSIK BAGHDASARYAN RELEASED
[12:24 pm] 28 November, 2008
Commander of a Masis battalion Husik Baghdasaryan has been put on a
conditional release today. Remind that the Cassation Court of the
Republic of Armenia had found Husik Baghdasaryan guilty of carrying
illegal weapons /Article 235 of the Criminal Code/.
Husik Baghdasaryan was tried for carrying 16 illegal cartridges. Note
that Husik Baghdasaryan has a right to carry a fowling piece but the
court found that the cartridges were not intended for the fowling
piece. Masis’s court had sentenced Baghdasaryan to a three-year
imprisonment. The Cassation Court had later reviewed the sentence and
reduced it to two years.
Baghdasaryan’s Advocate Vardan Zurnachyan is going to appeal to the
European Court of Human Rights.
We have ample grounds to appeal to the European Court. They haven’t
taken into consideration some mitigating circumstances. We demand to
acquit Baghdasaryan as his arrest is groundless,’ Vardan Zurnachyan
said to A1+.
Remind that Husik Baghdasaryan backed Levon Ter-Petrosyan during the
February 19 Presidential election.
