EUROPEAN COURT TO EXAMINE TWO ARMENIANS’ COMPLAINTS AGAINST AZERBAIJAN

Court is examining 1,000 complaints against Azerbaijan, part of which
came from Azerbaijani citizens of Armenian origin, Azerbaijani judge
at the European Court Khanlar Hajiyev told reporters in Baku on 11 Dec.
The European Court is considering several complaints from the citizens
displaced from the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, with two of them
from Armenians against Azerbaijan. There are six complaints against
Armenia from the people displaced from Lachin region, he said.
It will take a long time to make a final decision on these cases,
he said.
"Decisions which courts will take on these complaints will be
pilot. Following the decisions, the number of such complaints to
the European Court will increase. This issue also has political
overtones. The European Court carefully takes the judicial decisions
on the above complaints," said Hajiev.
Currently there are 40 complaints against Azerbaijan on the agenda of
the European Court, which examination will commence next year, he said.
"Complaints against Azerbaijan are mainly related to property,
non-enforcement of judicial decisions, violation of the right to a
fair trial, the right to freedom of assembly and election rights,"
said Hajiev.
According to Hajiyev, the European Court will expedite examination
of complaints on Azerbaijan, as the number of lawyers handling these
cases has increased.
So far, the European court has made 16 decisions against Azerbaijan.
