DAYS ARE GETTING LONGER

Today is winter solstice. The winter solstice occurs at the instant
when the Sun’s position in the sky is at its greatest angular
distance on the other side of the equatorial plane from the observers’
hemisphere. Usually the night is the longest and the day the shortest
during winter solstice. Though the winter solstice lasts an instant,
the term is also colloquially used to refer to the full 24-hour period
of the day on which it occurs.

Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied from culture to
culture, but most cultures have held a recognition of rebirth,
involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other
celebrations around that time.

It is generally believed that autumn ends on this day.

Starting from December 22 days will become longer and days
shorter. People also believe that on December 31 they will have the
same weather as on December 22.

According to the Armenian State Hydrometeorological and Monitoring
Service snow will fall in the highlands these days. The temperature
will be -1-3 at night and +1+3 in the daytime.
