ArmInfo. Leader of New Times opposition party Aram Karapetyan is
going to hand over a letter to the Russian Interior Ministry in Moscow.
Hrachya Sargsyan, a member of New Times Party Board told ArmInfo
that Aram Karapetyan, who is in Moscow since late December 2008,
intends to hand over the letter of Samvel Nikoyan, the head of the
Parliamentary Interim Committee to Investigate March 1 incidents in
Yerevan, to the leadership of the Russian Interior Ministry.
Thus, Samvel Nikoyan asks for the detailed information on the tear
gas ‘Cheryomukha-7’ since the plant producing this type of special
substances is under control of the Russian Interior Ministry. Aram
Karapetyan is going to return to Yerevan on 14-15 January since
the Parliamentary Interim Committee is to meet just on these
days. A. Karapetyan may present the reply of the Russian Interior
Ministry at the meeting, Hrachya Sargsyan said.
To recall, on 24 February 2008, the National Security Service of
Armenia arrested Aram Karapetyan. He was charged with Article 333
of the Armenian Criminal Code (false denunciation about the then
president of Armenia Robert Kocharyan and then Prime Minister
Serzh Sargsyan). The denunciation was about alleged readiness of
the authorities to yield the Armenian town of Meghri (the so-ca lled
Meghri corridor) to Azerbaijan in exchange for independence of Nagorny
Karabakh. In May the measure of restraint against Aram Karapetyan
was changed with recognizance not to leave due to the poor health
state. While in freedom, Aram Karapetyan is in Moscow already for
the second time ‘to get treatment’ by authority of Prosecutor General
Aghvan Hovsepyan.
