YEREVAN, JANUARY 13, NOYAN TAPAN. Constantly delaying court sittings
on the "case of the seven" with the motivation of the defendants’
not standing up at the court is only a way for the authorities to
fail the open-door trial."
Levon Zurabian, the Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress,
gave assurance in his interview to Noyan Tapan correspondent. In
his words, it is obvious that the authorities are not interested
in holding an open-door trial, as it will be a great disgrace for
them. According to L. Zurabian, if an open-door trial is held, the
whole truth will be disclosed and those really guilty for the March
1 events will be revealed. "Thus the authorities do their best to
exclude an open trial," the ANC representative said.
It should be mentioned that the court sittings on the "case of
the seven" are announced "open-door," but following defendants’
appeal, their relatives and activists refuse to enter the court
hall. L. Zurabian clarified it saying that according to the
authorities’ scenario, the policemen in civil clothes brought to
the hall should provoke the defendants’ relatives being there. As
a result, according to L. Zurabian, bringing the "unworthy" conduct
of defendants’ relatives as a pretext, the authorities will make the
trial closed.
