ArmInfo. Via collecting signatures the Turkish elite is trying to
prepare the ground in Turkey for recognition of Armenian genocide but
with a condition to refuse the term ‘genocide’, director of ‘Hay-Dut’
central office Kiro Manoyan told ArmInfo correspondent.

‘An attempt was made in such a way to create precedent for further
spreading of the word expression ‘great tragedy of Armenians’ instead
of the Armenian Genocide. Similar thing happened in the USA long ago
when in his speech dedicated to 24 April George Bush-the elder called
the events of 1915 as a genocide’, – he said. At the same time he
supposed that probably the initiators which probably are aware of
the state of the negotiating process between Armenia and Turkey,
think it is possible to make use of the situation and came forward
with such an initiative.

‘I think that Turkish intellectuals purposefully refused to use the
term genocide in their statement and displaced it with an inaccurate
translation.

It sounded like ‘great misfortune’ which Armenian nation suffered
in 1915.

But at the same time they keep on saying that they think it was the
genocide’, – Manoyan concluded.
