YEREVAN, JANUARY 20, NOYAN TAPAN. OSCE Minsk Group’s format is
efficient and beneficial for the Armenian people, but its policy
should undergo some changes. Political scientist Stepan Grigorian,
the Head of the Analytical Center for Globalization and Regional
Development, expressed such an opinion at the January 20 press
conference. According to him, first of all Minsk Group Co-chairs’
visits to the region should be reduced, as frequent visits at first
call forth belief and expectations and then disappointment.

The second thing S. Grigorian would like to change in Co-chairs’
policy is giving up optimistic statements, as they also call forth
expectations and despair in both Armenian and Azeri society. According
to the political scientist, Co-chairs’ individual visits to the region
also hinder the Nagorno Karabakh settlement negotiations process:
they give an occasion for conclusions that the U.S., Russia, and
France have different approaches over the settlement. S. Grigorian
also said that Nagorno Karabakh settlement variants should not be
called by geographic names (for instance, "Madrid principles").

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
