"The interests, pursued by Armenian opposition and Azerbaijani powers,
are interconnected", considers Armenian political scientist Sergey
Shakaryantz.

"During the PACE summit on the Armenian issue the Azerbaijani
delegation often refers to the leader of Armenian opposition Levon
Ter-Petrosyan", noted Shakaryantz at a press conference Friday.

He said it means that "Azerbaijani authorities and Armenian opposition
have arranged a front against the Armenian state and nation".

"I am confident that what is favorable for the Armenian opposition,
is favorable for Azerbaijan too", considers Shakaryantz.

He noted that if the aim of the first is to overthrow the working
powers the aim of others is to humiliate Armenians in the South
Caucasus.

The political scientist considers that March 1 is coming and Armenian
oppositionists’ protests should be expected to resume.

At the same time, he hopes that the dialogue between Armenian powers
and opposition are underway though unofficially. "We should hope that
the dialogue will continue", added he.

According to Shakaryantz, the powers have already started unofficial
talks with some representatives of oppositional flangs and the sides
coordinate their actions.

As an example, Shakaryantz listed the recent order of the Armenian
president to release several prisoners.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
