KAPAN, FEBRUARY 5, ARMENPRESS: As of January 1, the unemployment rate
in Syunik reaches 14.1% which increased by 1% as compared with the
same period of the last year.

During 2008, 10,490 people were looking for job in the province,
during 2007 – 9,072 people.

Instead of last year’s 6,912, at present 8,341 citizens of the province
have status of unemployed. The highest rate of unemployment has been
registered in Goris region – 16%.

Head of the center of employment of Kapan province Ruben Poghosian told
Armenpress that the increase of the unemployment rate is conditioned
by the dismissals in the mining enterprises which take place as a
result of world financial crisis.

The center is also informed about the coming mass dismissals of
workers from other enterprises as well.

Particularly the Kapan culture center in late December informed the
center in written form about the dismissals of 59 workers.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
