The President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan made a speech in 45th Munich
Security Conference stressing the impact of the world crisis on
Southern Caucasus, reports the press service of the President’s
Administration.

"I guess, the world economic crisis will not diminish the international
role of the region. But, I think that the crisis and its aftermaths
will make us to think over more effective models of energetic and
transport development," said the President.

The President stresses that the Southern Caucasus can not considered
stable if the policy of isolating and ignoring each other is
experienced. The international society has not always reacted
correspondently over the problem of Armenia being isolated from the
regional affairs. Hence, in the aftermath of the crisis the region
as one economic unit will become more effective.

Regarding the security of the region, Serzh Sargsyan recommended not
only to think of "what’s then?", "how will it develop?", "what will
happen" requests, but to try to learn from the past.

"2008 has taught us much and we should learn them. First, August
events have proved everybody that the situation in Caucasus is not an
easy one and the challenges and dangers are serious here. The second:
expanding of the gaps should be managed and decreased. And the third:
transit alternative ways should be developed," said the President.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
