ARMENIA-EU 2009-2011 ACTION PLAN PRESENTED IN YEREVAN

chairman of the interdepartmental commission for coordination of
Armenia’s cooperation with European structures Artur Baghdasaryan
briefed Tuesday on priorities and main dimensions of the Armenia-EU
Action Plan for years 2009-2011.
The Action Plan consists of 195 provisions, 83 of which were proposed
by the EU and 112 by the Armenian government.
"The Action Plan envisages 6 major trends. The political trend supposes
development of the Armenia-EU political dialogue, specifically
simplification of visa system. It also implicates cooperation and
joint resistance to challenges," Mr. Baghdasaryan said.
He also informed that reforms in legal system and development of
mechanisms between the court and law enforcement bodies and struggle
against corruption are envisaged.
"According to the Plan, the republic’s infrastructure will be
reorganized. Armenia’s engagement in international and regional
projects as well as strengthening of Armenia-EU energy cooperation,"
he added.
Reforms in education, science, health care and social sectors are
also expected.
"The European Commission offered Armenia and five other post-soviet
states the Eastern Partnership initiative, which will bring the
Armenia-EU relations to a new level," Baghdasaryan said.
