RA NA President Receives The Ambassador Of Israel

RA NA PRESIDENT RECEIVES THE AMBASSADOR OF ISRAEL

National Assembly of RA
Feb 11 2009
Armenia

On February 12 RA NA President Mr Hovik Abrahamyan received the
newly appointed Ambassador of Israel to the Republic of Armenia Mr
Shemi Tzur.

Congratulating Mr Tzur in connection with assuming the Ambassador’s
post the RA NA President Mr Hovik Abrahamyan expressed conviction that
his diplomatic rich experience would have good basis for activating
and developing the Armenian-Israeli relations and expressed willingness
to support the deepening of cooperation on different spheres of mutual
importance. He congratulated the Ambassador regarding the elections of
Knesset, which were held in Israel on February 10 and expressed hope
that later the inter-parliamentary relations will become closer, noting
that a parliamentary friendship group with the parliament of Israel
in the National Assembly functions. Its active work also can promote
the development of relations. To Mr Abrahamyan’s conviction, the
activation of partnership between the parliaments, the mutual visits
and the elaboration and the implementation of the joint programmes
will give new quality and level to the relations of the two countries.

Expressing gratitude the Ambassador of Israel to the Republic of
Armenia Mr Shemi Tzur noted that he would make efforts to develop the
Israeli-Armenian relations in the respect of deepening the political,
economic and scientific-cultural relations. He said that after the
February parliamentary elections the Kadima and Likud parties had
the maximum votes, and in general, ten parties will be presented
in Knesset: during the coming weeks the government will also
be formed. Mr Tzur also highlighted the necessity of deepening
the inter-parliamentary relations, underlining the importance
of mutual visits at all levels and noted in this context that an
Israeli-Armenian parliamentary friendship group will also be set up
in the new parliament of Israel.

The activity of the Armenian Patriarchate and Armenian community
functioning through centuries in Jerusalem was highlighted. The
sides touched upon the ruling situation in the region, emphasizing
the importance of solving problems through peaceful means.

At the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were discussed too.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
