Veteran singer CHARLES AZNAVOUR is continuing to help citizens in
his homeland of Armenia – he has accepted a diplomatic post to help
the country forge stronger ties with Switzerland.
The crooner was born in France to Armenian parents, and was granted
citizenship of the former Soviet republic state last year (08).
He previously set up the Aznavour for Armenia committee to help
victims of a 1988 earthquake in the country, recording a charity
single to raise funds.
Now the 84-year-old has accepted a role of ambassador to Switzerland,
where he currently lives.
He says, "At first I hesitated, as I thought that this is no easy
matter. But then I thought that, in the end, what is important for
Armenia must be important for all of us. I accepted this proposal
with pleasure, joy and a deep feeling of honour."
