PROGRESS DURING CRISIS?

"We keep increasing aluminum foil production every month and have
no problems with sales and export," told "A1+" member of the "RusAL"
group, press speaker for "ArmenAl" CJSC Alexander Melkumyan.

However, the world’s largest aluminum-producing "RusAl" company has
been hit hard by the crisis. This month aluminum production has gone
down by 11 percent, which makes up 500 thousand tons. The company has
reduced expenses for management by 60 percent and vacancies are down
by 5 percent.

Melkumyan was not able to answer the question how "ArmenAl" progresses
while "RusAl" suffers losses. According to him, "ArmenAl" probably
had some problems in the aftermath of the Russian-Georgian war back
in August 2008.

"ArmenAl" mainly exports its products to countries of the region. The
company produced 250 tons less compared to 2007 due to the outbreak
of war in the region. Last year, the company produced 12,000 tons of
aluminum foil. Melkumyan also noted that none of the 800 plus workers
have been laid off and continue to receive their salaries.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
