The overflow of the Debed River in the spring has been a scourge for
residents of the so-called "Kamchatka" part of the "Sanahin Station"
district of Alaverdi for years. The waters that overflow from the
river have not only covered the parks, but have also reached the
yards of buildings.
Residents throw the trash in the river due to lack of garbage cans in
the district and if the river is not cleaned in the spring, residents
will be forced to live near the river filled with trash all year long.
Seryozha Kostandyan doesn’t see anything wrong with throwing trash
in the river, but he adds that the installment of garbage cans will
not stop residents from throwing trash in the river.
Another resident, however, assures that he is forced to throw trash
in the river because there are no garbage cans. A garbage can was
brought to the district a couple of days ago, but according to mayor
of Alaverdi Artur Nalbandyan, the residents are not used to paying
for garbage disposal and keep filling the river with trash.
