The first night of the play "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" will be
staged at Gabriel Sundukyan State National Academic Theatre on February
28. The play is based on the similar play by German dramatist and prose
writer Bertold Brecht. The staging is directed by Tigran Gasparyan.

‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’ was written by Bertold Brecht within 2
months in 1945 and reedited in 1953-1954. The plot is based on an old
Eastern drama ‘The Chalk Circle’ and a well-known biblical parable
about King Solomon. Outside Germany ‘The Caucasian Chalk Circle’
is one of Brecht’s most frequently staged plays.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
