President Serzh Sargsyan hosted the Catholicos of All Armenians
Garegin II and members of the Supreme Spiritual Council.
Serzh Sargsyan appreciated the fact that the close cooperation between
the state and the Holy Etchmiadzin is reinforcing day by day.
Noting that at times of hardship the faith in God has always been the
last hope of our people, Serzh Sargsyan said it’s due to the prayers
of our nation and the great role of our Church that we have managed
to pass the crossroads of the past years, have an independent state
at the end of the 20th century and move forward.
According to Serzh Sargsyan, "the Armenian Apostolic Church is one of
the oldest establishments in the world that has been functioning for
over 1 700 years. It’s also the most ancient cultural and educational
establishment we have. It’s hard to imagine a more experienced and
influential partner for the state institutions of the Republic of
Armenia."
During the meeting reference was made to the issues members of
the Supreme Spiritual Council were interested in. In particular,
the interlocutors attached importance to the discussion of the draft
law on celebrating the National Identity Day, dwelt on the problems
facing the Georgian Diocese.
