Subpoena for attendance executed: Court siiting delayed
[02:46 pm] 27 February, 2009
On February 27, 2009, the Criminal Court of Yerevan resumed the court
hearing on the case of Vardan Jhangiryan, the brother of ex Deputy
Prosecutor General Gagik Jhangiryan. Jhangiryan was brought to court
by bailiffs.
Today’s court sitting was suspended because of the absence of the
Accusant Koryun Piloyan. Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan explained
Piloyan’s non-attendance by the latter’s working load.
Vardan Jhangiryan has been subpoenaed though the police escort knew
that the trial would be suspended. This is a brilliant example of
torture against Jhangiryan. They are well aware that Jhangiryan needs
rest cure and any movement is painful for him. Today the court was to
discuss Jhangiryan’s transportation to Germany for a thorough
examination and treatment,’ says Advocate Lusine Sahakyan. The
advocates are going to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights as
`Jhangiryan’s health is aggravating day by day.’
Remind that Vardan Jhangiryan suffers from vertebral tuberculosis. His
health further aggravated after receiving a missile wound during the
detention on February 23.
The advocates have petitioned the court to discontinue the case
because of the defendant’s ill health but the judge in the case,
Mnatsakan Martirosian, has rejected all motions.
The next court sitting is scheduled for March 17.
