Yerevan (Yerkir) – Initiated by the ARF parliamentary faction,
February 28 is marked in Armenia as the day of commemorating the
victims of the organized massacres in Azerbaijan and the day for
protecting the rights of refugees.

The ARF Supreme Body of Armenia organized an event at the Armenian
Genocide Memorial to mark the 21st anniversary of the Sumgayit
massacres.

Armen Rustamian, the Supreme Body representative and the chairman of
the parliamentary commission on foreign relations, drew parallels on
how the past 21 years were used by Azerbaijan and by us, said that
Azerbaijan has used the impunity of the perpetrators at its best.

"If the international community is really interested in settling the
Karabakh conflict by peaceful means, it should clearly realize that the
only way is to respect the NKR people’s right to self-determination,"
he said.

Rustamian added that we should work more actively work towards
the international recognition of the NKR along with the fruitless
talks with Azerbaijan, the same way as we are working towards the
international recognition of the Armenian Genocide without waiting
for such a recognition by Turkey.

Parliamentary faction secretary Artashes Shahbazian said that it
is necessary not to mark this day only once a year but raise voice
every day.

Shahbazian read out the Supreme Body statement condemning the
Azerbaijani policies against Armenians.
