/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Embarrassed by the jump of USD rate, Armenian people
rushed to shops to buy up first priority goods. Consumers complain
that despite the authorities’ warnings, some shops raised prices for
food. Sunflower oil, butter, sugar and flour prices went up by 20-30%.

On March 3 evening the exchange rate was fixed at AMD372.11/$1,
AMD9.5-11.5/RR, AMD450-490/1 EURO.

Meanwhile, the state commission on economic competition protection
(SCECP) called on entrepreneurs to refrain from ungrounded rise
in prices.

"The situation is under control and the SCECP will react to any change
immediately," the commission said in a statement.

Commission chairman Ashot Shahnazaryan ordered to monitor the staple
goods market hourly. The list of goods includes 40 descriptions
against previous 25.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
