/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Armenian Religious Community in Galle’s Amensdorf
Quarter purchased a piece of land with a building that used to serve
as a catholic church. According to the community priest Aristakes
Ayvazyan, its an architecturally unique church.
The Head of Amensdorf community Herberdt Ziegfried expressed his
gratitude to the purchasers. "It’s been 3 years since the catholic
church stopped functioning, and we were worried it would remain
unclaimed. We’re happy the territory would be used for a noble cause
of returning the believers to the Church, " he said.
The ceremonial consecration of the church will be held in May, as the
building is still under reconstruction. The altar will be sprinkled
with holy water; columns, pictures and crosses cleansed with wine
and myrrh.
