PRESS RELEASE
The Armenian Relief Society of Eastern USA is currently accepting
applications for its 2009 Summer Youth Connect Program to be held in
the Greater Boston area from May 31 until June 7, 2009. The program is
available to any college student at any level of their study as well
as high school seniors who are planningto start college in Fall 2009.
The ARS Youth Connect Program which is in its second year, aims at
bringing young Armenians to be immersed in a week-long program of
lectures, social activities, visit various Armenian institutions, hear
about internship opportunities both in the US and in Armenia and
interact with other youth organization in the Boston area.
During their week stay in the Boston Area, participants would have an
opportunity to hear lectures and discussion on topics such as youth
and social movements in Armenia, rural development in Armenia, and in
general challenges facing Armenians and Armenia. The program will
also have a component of sightseeing in Boston and visits to some of
the American-Armenian organizations and institutions. During the event
there will be visits to several Boston area universities where there
ar e Armenian programs.
Other aspects of the program include, visits to several Boston area
universities where there areArmenian programs, networking with local
Armenian youth organizations and an opportunity fair to find out about
internship possibilities in Armenia and the US.
The director of the pilot program is Dr. Asbed Kotchikian from Bentley
University who, in the past, has had extensive experience in
developing and directing youth related programsin the US, Armenia and
Middle East. The participants’ lodging will be at Bentley University
in Waltham and it would be provided for by the ARS.
There is a $100 application fee however there are no participation
fees as the program covers lodging, food and local transportation for
all participants.
