Voters must decide on elections for Yerevan Elders’ council themselves

YEREVAN, March 11. /ARKA/. The voters will decide themselves on which
party to vote for at the elections for Yerevan Elders’ Council, said
Spokesman of Prosperous Armenia Party Leader Khachik Galstyan.

`I assure you this and will try to help our citizens be sure that the
elections will be free and fair and each political power will be able
to win the sympathy of the voters and introduce its view,’ he told
reporters on Wednesday.

Talking about the competition, Galstyan noted all political parties of
the country are rivals of the Prosperous Armenia Party.

`We do not overestimate or underestimate anybody. These elections are
an arena for healthy political competition for our party, we respect
everybody and are ready to compete with all the parties that will
participate to the elections of the Elders’ Council,’ he stressed.

Galstyan excluded possibility of PAP participation to the elections in
a team with other parties. He stated there is no information on
intention of State of Law Party or Armenian Revolutionary Federation
Dashnaktsutyun Party to support Prosperous Armenia Party in the
elections.

`I think these parties can participate in the elections separately,’
said Galstyan.

The elections for Yerevan Elders’ Council will take place on May 31.
A
ccording to the RA Law `On local governments of Yerevan’ the council
will have 65 members and be formed by proportional system. The position
of Mayor of Yerevan becomes elective and is elected by the Council of
Elders from its members.

If a party wins more than 50% of the votes in municipal elections, its
first candidate becomes the Yerevan Mayor.

Prosperous Armenia Party is in governing coalition with the Republican
Party of Armenia, Dashnaktsutyun Party and State of Law Party. RA
Minister of Health Harutyun Kushkyan is the first on the proportional
list of the Prosperous Armenia Party.

Gagik Beglaryan is currently the Mayor of Yerevan. He was appointed on
March 4 on the RA President’s decree. He is the first on the list of
the Republican Party of Armenia for elections for the Council of
