Ten men held accountable in Azerbaijan for spying for Armenia

Azerbaijan, Baku, March 12 /Trend News, K. Zarbaliyeva/

In 2008, the Azerbaijani National Security Ministry filed a lawsuit
against 10 men charged with spying for Armenia, a governmental report
introduced at the Azerbaijani parliament said.

Nine were military officers. One was a civilian.

A lawsuit has been filed against them for treason.

Ten other officers have been arrested for cooperating with Armenian
intelligence agencies.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The
co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. – are
currently holding the peace negotiations.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
