Georgian leader’s remarks on Armenian economy "ungrounded" – spokesman

Yerevan, 10 March: The definitions, given to Armenian economy by the
Georgian president at the opening of a recreation center, "are
absolutely ungrounded".

Spokesman for the Armenian president Samvel Farmanyan said this,
commenting on Mediamax’s request [to comment] on the statement of the
Georgian president on the "collapse of Armenian economy".

"On the other hand, I do not think that such definitions are the best
way to distract attention of the own people from various problems,
existing in Georgia," spokesman for the Armenian president stated.

According to him, the Armenian president has been many times asked
about both internal political and socialeconomic situation in
neighboring countries. "As you have noticed, the Armenian president
has never made statements on such subjects, no matter how attractive
it might be in this or that situation, leaving the comments on such
issues to analysts, as well as to the state and political figures of
the given country. This is what political correctness implies," Samvel
Farmanyan noted.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
