Political scientist Sergey Shakaryants told a pres conference today
that the forthcoming visit of the Foreign Minister of Turkey, Ali
Babacan, to Armenia is a recurrent step the parties make, taking into
consideration the overlapping of their current interests. It also
demonstrates that Armenia creates no obstacles to the establishment of
normal bilateral relations.
According to the political scientist, official Yerevan does not make a
step back and does not refuse from the approach that the relations
should be established without preconditions. As for US President Barack
Obama’s expected visit to Turkey and the increased pressures to
accelerate the fulfillment of his promises, Shakatyants said: `We
expect it to take place this April. However, in my opinion, it won’t
event happen in the current year. If Obama recognizes the Armenian
Genocide, it will take place towards the end of his tenure in office.
Moreover, I expect that a number of representatives of the Obama
Administration will start bargaining with the Armenian community of the
US and the Armenian authorities.’
