Ruling RPA stands best chance to win Yerevan Mayor election
13.03.2009 16:53 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The Republican Part of Armenia (RPA) has best
chances for victory, though both coalitional partners and the
opposition could achieve some success in election campaigns for
Council of Deans and Yerevan Mayor. ”We have every reason to believe
RPA and its candidates will be a success ` both public opinion polls
and the trust RPA enjoys in Yerevan testify to it, ” the Party Press
Secretary, Member of RA National Council Eduard Sharmazanov stated.

RPA expects an `honest and civilized political competition ‘ from
Heritage , ANC as well as other opposition parties. Should there be
unification of Heritage Party with the Armenian National Congress, The
RPA will have to fight with the united block, if no – the struggle
will be waged between separate parties.

Yerevan Council of Deans elections are due on May. 31.

The council comprises 65 members, one of which will be nominated for
the position of Yerevan Mayor. Should one of the parties win more than
50% of electoral vote, the person heading the candidate’s list of the
indicated party automatically becomes the Mayor. At present Gagik
Beglayran holds the position of Yerevan Mayor, to which he was
appointed on Mar 4 by presidential decree. He tops the list of
Republican Party candidates for Council of Deans elections. Prosperous
Armenia’s candidates list headed by RA Minister of Health Arthur
Kushkyan.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
