Azerbaijanis slam recent tendency in Turkey-Armenia relations

Baku. Ramil Mammadli ` APA. Azerbaijani political scientists and party
functionaries took a negative opinion of the Turkish media reports
which claimed that there was a secret deal between Turkey and Armenia,
which will be released after April 24.

Political scientist Vafa Guluzade, a Former Azerbaijani Presidential
Advisor, told APA that Turkey’s move to warm relations with Armenia
may undermine Azerbaijan’s stand.

`However, many big countries in the world favor warm relations between
Turkey and Armenia. In fact, we have not gained anything from the
close borders between Turkey and Armenia. We should wait and see what
comes out of Armenia’s forging relations with a NATO state,’ he added

According to him, the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will remain unsolved
if the political balance in the region doesn’t change.

`If the United States can drive Russia out of the Caucasus and make
Armenia independent, then the Karabakh conflict will be settled,’ he
added.

Sulhaddin Ekber, Chairman of Musavat Party Assembly, expressed regret
for Turkey’s building relations with Armenia.

`Turkey takes this step, taking into account the international
trends. In any case, if Armenia gets a carrot instead of a stick, this
will not yield a good result, he added.

Political scientist Rasim Musabayev said such reports in Turkish media
are designed to learn public opinion.

`Turkey has its own interests and these interests are impossible to
absolutely coincide with Azerbaijan’s interests on all
issues. However, Turkey understands that Azerbaijan is more important
than Armenia,’ he added.

MP Aydin Mirzezade thinks that every step to be taken will arouse an
adequate reaction from the Turkish public.

`Up to now, Turkey stated that is sides with Azerbaijan. Now
friendship with Armenia may cause reverse reaction. Turkish
authorities’ improving its relationship with a country which conducts
dirty campaign against Turkey internationally is not
understandable. However, it is their own business. In any case, the
trends will unveil how sincere Turkey’s alliance with Azerbaijan is,’
he added.

MP Igbal Aghazade, Chairman of Umid Party, called the trends as
undesirable.

`Turkey should think very seriously. I am one of those who don’t
approve of AKP’s policy. This suggests that AKP wants to configure a
new order of the notion of strategic alliance. Anyway, they have kind
of Arabic fanaticism,’ he added.

Sabah and Star newspapers, close to the Turkish government, reported
that Turkey and Armenia reached an agreement in Berne through secret
negotiations conducted since September 2007 and this agreement will be
announced after April 24, the day of so-called Armenian genocide’.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
