LEVON TER-PETROSYAN IS THE FIRST IN THE LIST OPPOSITION CANDIDATES TO ELDER’S COUNCIL

ArmInfo. First president of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan is the first
in the list of the opposition candidates to the Elder’s Council and
to the position of Yerevan Mayor. The elections are scheduled for
May 2009, Levon Zurabyan, Head of the opposition Armenian National
Congress (ANC) Center Office, told media Monday.
He said ANC made a relevant decision on March 15. ‘Given the important
role of Yerevan as a political and economic center of Armenia, we
believe that victory in the elections will help us more effectively
fight for establishment of constitutional order and democracy in
the country. This will not be a fight against certain lists and
‘beglaryans’ but a fight against monopolized and criminalized system
and oligarchy’, L. Zurabyan said. He called these elections a second
round of the presidential election.
Moreover, he urged all the citizens of Yerevan to vote actively since
the ‘key of democratic victory is in the hands of the population’.
