YEREVAN, MARCH 16, NOYAN TAPAN. "I have a definitely negative opinion
about the action initiated by "Miasin" youth movemement because such
methods should not be used in the fight against corruption," the
rector of Yerevan State University (YSU) Aram Simonian declared during
the March 13 meeting at the National Press Club. In his words, "the
Lesbian movement also started in the same way, and this "handwriting"
is typical of 1937 when many people were unfairly accused".

According to A. Simonian, no one can deny that corruption and bribery
exist.

"Bribery has social roots. Today lecturers are one of the most
unprotected groups in the country, they live a poor life, and naturaly
there are some who take this step due to hard conditions of life,"
he noted, adding that "luckily, the number of such lecturers at YSU
is small".

A. Simonian expressed an opinion that a coordinated fight against
bribery should be conducted. In his words, one can "smash" a lecturer
with a photo, but no one can reduce corruption in this way because
"each of us still believes that we cannot do without "wetting
a bargain".

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
