JAPAN TO ALLOCATE $50 TO $100MLN FOR RURAL ROAD RENOVATION

YEREVAN, March 19. /ARKA/. The Japan International Cooperation Agenmcy
(JICA) plans to allocate a $50-$100mln soft credit to Armenia for
the renovation of rural roads.

The press services of the RA Ministry of Transport reports that, at
his meeting with RA Minister of Transport and Communications Gurgen
Sargsyan, Kenichi Yamatoto, Head of the JICA Department for Central
Asia and Caucasus, stated that a JICA mission is to visit Armenia
early this May to thoroughly discuss the terms and conditions of the
credit program.

Yamatoto gave assurances that a credit agreement will be signed before
the end of this year if the bilateral negotiations prove successful.

Minister Gurgen Sargsyan pointed out the importance to close
cooperation with JICA. As regards the elaboration of the credit program
of rural road renovation, the Minister reported that the process is
nearing completion, and the relevant documents will soon be finalized.

The sides also addressed the problem of road maintenance, pointing
out the possibility of JICA’s financial and technical assistance.
