A former Spring resident who was returned here from Thailand early
this year on accusations that he had sexually assaulted young girls in
this area has been charged with assaulting two more girls.
Darren Ray Castleberry, 40, now is accused of attacks on seven girls
during the period from 1986 to 2005. Investigators have said he made
video recordings of some of the incidents.
Prosecutors say Castleberry faces eight counts of aggravated sexual
assault of a child, a first-degree felony punishable by 5 to 99 years
or life in prison. Those charges concern alleged victims who were 13
or younger.
He also is charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child, a
second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. Those
charges concern accusations that he assaulted girls who were at least
14 years old.
The latest charges resulted from reports by girls who were 7 and 10 at
the
time of the alleged assaults, prosecutors said.
Castleberry remains in the Harris County Jail. He was the object of an
international manhunt after leaving the United States in 2006, when
some of the alleged victims contacted authorities and accused him.
Authorities say they tracked him from Kuwait to Turkey, Armenia and
Uzbekistan before he was arrested in Bangkok on Jan. 7.
