TOROSYAN IS DISSATISFIED WITH "CASE OF SEVEN"

"The "Case of Seven" harmed the reputation of the country and all
political parties and I don’t know what it turned into," said today
former NA Chairman Tigran Torosyan.
When journalists reminded him that three political prisoners were
sentenced to prison during his term as chairman, Mr. Torosyan said:
"Our statement was clear a year ago when the Prosecutor General came
to parliament. Everybody wanted to know what happened and who was to
blame. The prosecutor said that the precautionary measures for the
deputies that were on the scene on March 1 must be imprisonment. I
must recall that Deputy Hakob Hakobyan had the same desire."
Hakob Hakobyan and the remaining deputies-turned political prisoners
recently wanted to present clarifications and prove their innocence
at the National Assembly, but the NA did not want to hear them.
Tigran Torosyan said today that he didn’t imagine that things could
get this far and that the preliminary investigative body could not
have come up with the answers in a year.
As for the inquiry and trials of the "Case of Seven", Torosyan said:
"I am not satisfied with just the inquiry and the legal proceedings."
Former NA Chairman Tigran Torosyan doesn’t tie the current economic
situation in Armenia with just the global financial/economic downturn.
"The economy indicators also say a lot about the situation in
Armenia. I am fully convinced that what happened in early March with
the dollar-dram adjustments was not useful for our economy or the
political life."
Tigran Torosyan believes that the shifts in the dollar-dram
relationship could have been smoother.
"It made no sense for the Central Bank to sell a couple of millions
of dollars a day before the adjustments and then say that prices went
up the next day."
Who do you think did this? In response to that, Tigran Torosyan said:
"The statement made by head of the Central Bank proved that the
dollar-dram relationship was artificially maintained for a while. The
conclusions can be drawn from that."
