On the eve of the `Civilities Alliance’ forum which is being held
under the auspices of the UN, the regional participants are making the
last preparations. Surprises have already been registered, such as the
U.S. president’s participation in it. Sure, this surprise could be
`expected’ as well as the Armenian foreign minister’s `sudden’ visit
to Turkey on those days. Analyzing the situation of the Armenian and
Turkish links, we may suppose that Obama, in compensation to the
Armenians, will do something which, for centuries will be represented
as a greatest good deed. Just imagine the U.S. president visiting Kars
and saying words of condolence to the descendants of the genocide
victims. Can there be anything more for the Armenians? But in case
this happens, the Armenians will lose all the cards for the Armenian
and Turkish relations. Since the Armenians does not present any
condition other than the recognition and the understanding. Moreover,
after this happens, the Armenians are ready to discuss their relations
with Turkey in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict
settlement.

Turkey tries ardently to prove that it does not knot its relations
with Armenia to the Karabakh issue settlement. Azerbaijan `helps’
Turkey it in this regard, which tries to persuade the whole world with
the same ardency that it took offense with Turkey. For instance, the
Azerbaijani president rejected participating in the forum. In
addition, information spread that the non-participating of the
president of Azerbaijan may be evaluated as a complaint against the
Armenian and Turkish border opening. And, here Turkey gets another
trump : `we are ready for a dialogue with Armenia even at the cost of
ruining our relations with our brother Azerbaijan. But in reality
both Armenia and Turkey realize very well how the opening of the
Armenian and Turkish border may be of use for both of them. But,
everything should be done in way for the others to be indebted.

The Minsk group American co-chair Matthew Bryza’s visit to Baku and
the French co-chair Bernard Fassier’s visit to Yerevan prove the fact
that the Armenian and Turkish relations are strictly connected with
the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. On the eve of these
visits, the Armenian and Karabakhi foreign ministers held discussions
at the Armenian foreign ministry. And before this, the U.S. state
secretary Hillary Clinton called the Armenian and Azerbaijani
presidents to hold a meeting within the forthcoming weeks and to
discuss the settlement.

On the whole, everything is brought to the level of a domestic
situation when a daughter says to her father- `let’s buy a new phone
for me for mom’s birthday’. But, in our case the phone is not bought
but seized.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
