Some 50 individual taxi drivers today gathered near the mansion of
Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) Leader Gagik Tsarukyan in search of
a solution to their concern.
"We hope Tsarukyan will help us solve the problem and the government
decision will be frozen for the time being," cab driver Armen Sahakyan
said to A1+.
Half an hour later Tsarukyan’s security men turned up and asked the
crowd to disperse.
"Gagik Tsarukyan is presently busy in the National Assembly. You can
leave your telephone numbers. He will contact you when he finds time,"
said a security guard.
Before turning to the BHK Leader, the drivers planed to stage a protest
action at Republic Square but the action was banned by policemen. One
of the protesters was taken to the police station.
Next time, taxi drivers are likely to gather in front of Levon
Ter-Petrosyan’s house.
"We shall either go to the Human Rights Defender Armen Harutyunyan
or to the Opposition Leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan. We have no other
alternative," they said.
The traffic police today raided through the capital streets and fined
all cabs having no yellow number plates and manufactured more than
ten years ago in the amount of 20 000 drams.
A taxi service expressed complaint over yellow number plates stating
they have already sent application but haven’t received licence plates
as relevant bodies say they don’t have any available at the moment.
The Press service of the Armenian police refuted the information.
