Court important
Today, for the first time after the "March 1st Seven" court case was
partitioned into its separate component parts, the trials of Alexander
Arzumanyan and Souren Sirunyan restarted.
Liparit Simonyan, the defense lawyer for former foreign minister
Arzumanyan, motioned the court to return the accusations and
evidence levied against his client in order that the defense team
could understand what the specific charges were and what they had
to defend against. The lawyer also motioned that a review be made of
the list of some 400 names to be suopeaned to appear before the court.
Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan partially sustained the motion and set
aside 15 witnesses in the cases involving Arzumanyan and Sirunyan. He
threw out the rest of the motion since prosecutor Aram Amirzadyan
argued that in the indictment were noted all the facts regarding
Arzumanyan.
Defense lawyer then made a second motion that some of the charges
against Arzumanyan be dropped given that according to the prosecution,
after the removal of part three of Articles 300 and 225, part one of
Article 225 becomes baseless. The jusge called a one and a half hour
recess to review the matter.
