ASHOT MELKONYAN: TURKEY WILL RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE SOONER OR LATER

The process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide
came to an end several years ago, an Armenian historian said.

"Armenian people do not care whether Barack Obama will use the
term Genocide or not. This is important for the Armenian community
of the United States only," Ashot Melkonyan told a news conference
today."The U.S. recognized the Genocide de jure long ago. As to Turkey,
it will acknowledge the fact sooner or later. Turkish historians
know what happened in 1915 and who lived in Western Armenia," he
said. Indemnity is what Turkey is afraid of, according to him. "We
should maintain dignity in relations with Turkey. Otherwise, we will
lose," Melkonyan said.
