"ARMENIAN ARCHITECTURE AND 21ST CENTURY" ALL-ARMENIAN CONFERENCE KICKS OFF

"Armenian Architecture and 21st Century" all-Armenian conference
of architects kicked off today in Yerevan aimed at development of
Armenia-Diaspora partnership, combining of the Armenian architectural
potential.
Diaspora minister Hranush Hakobian said that for discussion of
issues of Armenian architecture and giving them common solution it
is necessary to create an all-Armenian association of architects.
"For the organization of the conference ties have been established
with hundreds of Diaspora architects. About 130 architects from
18 countries are participating in this all-Armenian gathering. The
main goal of this conference is contribution of joint efforts to the
preservation of the huge Armenian cultural heritage both in Armenia
and outside of it," she said.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan addressed a message to the
participants, expressing hope that the event will put a beginning of
a new level of cooperation between the Armenian architects.
His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II and President of
Nagorno Karabakh Bako Sahakyan also addressed messages wishing the
participants successful work. Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan in his
speech highlighted those issues which are contemporary – they mainly
refer to the preservation of national architectural heritage, issues on
creative development, preparation and training of young architects etc.
"Taking into consideration current geopolitical developments and
opportunities of state and international right I have no doubt that
the conference will deeply analyze the existing issues in the sphere
and find ways of rational solution to these issues," he pointed out.
The prime minister also drew the attention of the participants to
the issue on development and implementation of educational-upbringing
programs.
Armenian chief architect Narek Sargsyan said that in spite of existing
difficulties and various issues during the past year quite serious work
has been done towards the formation of program of equal development
of Armenia’s territories. The chief architect referred to the wide
range of town construction activity during the past years.
He also noted that with the decree of the urban minister a commission
has been set up with the participation of the architect specialists
which must develop a bill on Armenia’s architecture.
The participants of the conference will also visit Holy See
of St. Etchmiadzin, Yerevan municipality. They will also be in
Tsitsernakaberd where a Diaspora park will be established, afterwards
they will depart for Gyumri and meet with local architects.
