ANC REPRESENTATIVE TAKES PART IN DISCUSSIONS ORGANIZED BY ALLIANCE OF LIBERALS AND DEMOCRATS FOR EUROPE

On April 21, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe
organized discussions dedicated to EU Eastern Partnership at the EU
Regional Committee, which is an advisory structure attached to the
European Commission, European Parliament, and Council of Ministers.
According to the report of the Armenian National Congress Central
Office Press Service, during the meeting, ANC Central Office
representative David Shahnazarian gave a speech on key issues
of Armenia’s domestic and foreign policy. He especially stressed
suppression of civil freedoms by the authorities in Armenia, violations
of human rights, rigging of the 2008 presidential elections, presence
of 55 political prisoners in the country, and permanent persecutions
of oppositionists by the authorities.
The prospects of Armenian-Turkish possible reconciliation, Nagorno
Karabakh settlement, as well as various aspects of Armenia-EU
cooperation were among the key subjects of the discussion following
the speech.
