ARMENIAN ASSEMBLY CONDUCTS CONGRESSIONAL MEETINGS IN SUPPORT OF H. RES.
252
Los Angeles, CA – As Armenian-Americans prepared to commemorate the 94th
anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the Armenian Assembly of America
(Assembly) continued its advocacy efforts working with activists from
across the country to build support for H. Res. 252, the Armenian
Genocide resolution.
Earlier this month, Assembly Western Region Director Yeghig Keshishian
traveled to San Francisco to meet with Congressman Jerry McNerney to
thank him for cosponsoring H. Res. 252 and to encourage him to become a
member of the Armenia Caucus. Rep. McNerney and Keshishian spoke about
local issues in Armenia and the projects that were funded under the
Millenium Challenge Account between Armenia and the U.S. As the
representative for the Bay Area community, which touches upon Central
Valley, Congressman McNerney has been a staunch proponent of investing
more into water projects, including irrigation.
While in San Francisco, Keshishian also joined local members of the Bay
Area Armenian community to meet at Senator Barbara Boxer’s office to
outline the Assembly’s priorities, concerns and key issues for the 111th
Congress.
A visit to Representative Ellen Tauscher’s office was also made to
congratulate the Congresswoman on her recent appointment as
Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security. The
Assembly looks forward to working with Rep. Tauscher.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s District Director, Dan Bernal, and Congresswoman
Barbara Lee’s office also welcomed the Assembly and its supporters for a
discussion on local issues and the nationwide efforts to build support
for H. Res. 252. The conversations also included Turkey’s recent hold on
the nomination of the former Danish Prime Minister to the
Secretary-General position at NATO and Armenia’s constructive role
working within the Transatlantic alliance – including hosting a
one-month peacekeeping operation in Yerevan.
Keshishian returned to Los Angeles to hold meetings with local members
of the House Foreign Affairs Committee – including, Congressmen Ed
Royce, Brad Sherman and Dana Rohrabacher – to encourage their continued
support on U.S. affirmation of the Armenian Genocide and to convey the
appreciation the Armenian community and Assembly have for their
commitment to strengthening and to promoting closer U.S.-Armenia
relations.

Washington-based nationwide organization promoting public understanding
and awareness of Armenian issues. The Assembly is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt
