"Caucasus 2008" International Conference Kickes Off In Yerevan

"CAUCASUS 2008" INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE KICKS OFF IN YEREVAN

"Caucasus 2008" international two-day conference kicked off today in
Yerevan. Within the frameworks of the event a number of issues on
political, social and economic developments in the North and South
Caucasus in 2008, policy of USA, Europe, Turkey and Russia relating
to the Caucasus, ethno-political conflicts and unrecognized republics
of the region as well as regional security of the South Caucasus will
be discussed.

Director of the Caucasian Institute, political scientist Alexander
Iskandarian said that the conference will sum up the 2008 events
in Caucasus.

Every year studies are being made in the institute and refer is being
made to the important events which took place in the region during
the past year, in this case in 2008.

A. Iskandarian said that the conference is annual and as a result of
its work a book is published which sums up the reports of the most
important events taken place in the region. For 2008 the political
scientist singled out Russian-Georgian war which changed a lot of
things in the region as well as in Armenian-Turkish relations.

Specialists from Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey as well European
states arrived to participate in the conference.
