ArmInfo. Employment criteria like "no older than 30, high and
pretty" are inadmissible and insult human dignity, the chairman of
the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia Edward Tumasyan said
during a traditional May Day conference today.
He said that the new trilateral agreement signed by the Confederation
of Trade Unions, the Union of Employers and the Government in Apr
2009 was expected to help to protect the interests of employees.
In 1995 the Confederation signed a similar agreement with the
Government but it was ineffective. Considering the urgent need
to regulate existing problems on the labor market, in Nov 2007 the
Confederation drafted one more agreement. The new agreement is supposed
to enhance the influence of trade unions as any of the parties has
the right to demand obligatory execution of its provisions and to
introduce changes to it. "Formerly, we were able to advance legislative
initiatives, now, we have no such right. This agreement will enhance
our participation in the adoption of decisions regulating the labor
market and the rights of employees," Tumasyan said.
