made a statement in connection with beating up of the editor of
Armenia Today, Argishti Kiviryan.

‘On April 30, 2009 early in the morning editor-coordinator of the
Armenia Today electronic newspaper, lawyer Argishti Kiviryan was
severely beaten.

With heavy injuries he was taken to the reanimation department of one
of the hospitals. According to the relatives of Argishti Kiviryan,
the attack is connected with his journalistic activities.

We, undersigned representatives of NGOs express our anger and state
that violent way of solving problems is becoming a serious threat to
the society and the authorities do not take effective steps to overcome
the situation. The fact that perpetrators of attacks on journalists
still have not faced the justice is an obvious evidence of this.

We strongly condemn another violence and demand the law enforcement
bodies to reveal this crime promptly and bring the perpetrators to
the responsibility’, the statement says.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
