The past parliamentary week was rich in events. Member of the Board of
the Republican Party of Armenia, MP Gagik Melikyan told a press
conference that the supposed fact the Armenian Revolutionary Federation
brought forward to withdraw from the political coalition do not
correspond to reality. In his words, there are no grounds to mistrust
the President of the Republic and his statements.

`The President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, has declared
several times that the establishment of diplomatic relations between
Armenia and Turkey and the opening of the borders will take place
without any preconditions. Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian has also
confirmed it both during his speeches at the National Assembly and
during interviews. When the authorities were saying before Levon
Ter-Petrosyan’s speech that there had been no mention of the Karabakh
issue in the Armenia-Turkey talks, people did not believe it. As soon
as Levon Ter-Petrosyan declared that Karabakh had never been touched
upon, everyone started believing. The existence of any precondition can
lead to the suspension of negotiations,’ Gagik Melikyan said.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
